The Readers, Reading Workbooks, and Teacher's Manual compose Grade 3 of the Bible Nurture and Reader Series. There are 5 units with 30 lessons in each unit, making a total of 150 lessons. All the lessons are based on Bible stories.
The 2 hardcover readers contain Units 1, 2, 3 (377 pages) and Units 4, 5 (304 pages) respectively. The first four units cover Old Testament history from David through the captivity and stories from the prophets. The fifth unit relates stories about Jesus, taken from the Gospel of Luke.
There are 5 separate workbooks, 1 for each unit. The number of pages varies in each workbook, ranging from 114 to 135. All the workbooks follow the same general pattern and include practice with vocabulary words, phonics, comprehension skills, sentence making, map work, and so forth. A test is included at the end of each unit.
The Reading Teacher's Manual (215 pages) gives information about all the units in the workbooks. It gives many helpful pointers for teaching each lesson, exercises for oral drill and extra practice, besides the answer keys for the workbooks and tests. Pointer questions are given in the Teacher's Manual to give purpose and to direct a child's thought in silent reading. Suggestions are given in the daily lesson plans to help establish proper posture and handling of the books as a routine standard. Pointers are also given to help develop expressive oral reading.
