Two art courses are available for Grade 1. Developing Motor Skills in Art includes more paper and craft projects. Art With a Purpose has more coloring and drawing exercises. These courses can greatly minimize the teacher's workload and give practical direction to art skills. It is recommended for both of these courses that the teacher have her own student packet or Artpac to do sample lessons beforehand. Extra packets would provide spares for the times someone needs to start over.
Developing Motor Skills in Art can be used for both Grades 1 and 2. It has 42 lessons including practice in coloring, cutting, folding, pasting, tracing, drawing, painting, and project making. The 119-page Teacher's Manual is needed to explain how to use the student packet. It gives step-by-step instructions for each lesson as well as reductions of the student's sheets. The student packet includes 31 sheets prepared for certain lessons to help reduce teacher preparation time. Each student will need a separate student packet.
Art With a Purpose has simple step-by-step art lessons for children in Grade 1. You will need an Artpac for each child. Each pupil's Artpac is a complete unit, containing 34 lessons with art sheets, a few pages of instructions for the teacher, examples, and lists of materials needed. It's all ready to go. You don't need to be an accomplished artist to teach it. This well-planned course includes exercises in coloring, drawing, cutting, and pasting. (Grades 2-8 are also available. The Artpac number is the recommended grade level. However, grades may be effectively combined, using a packet near the actual grade level.) Prepared by Share-a-Care Publications.
