One hardcover reader contains all three units of Grade 4 with a total of 75 lessons. The first unit has stories from the Gospel of John. The second unit contains stories from the Book of Acts, with an emphasis on map work and following the travels of Paul. The third unit is about Job, Psalms, and Proverbs. The lessons from Psalms are in poetry form. The lessons from Proverbs each have a present-day or a historical story to illustrate the proverb of that lesson.
Progressing with Arithmetic has 170 lessons, counting tests, most being two pages long. Lesson concepts are clearly explained to the student. After reviewing the basic facts and teaching the multiplication and division facts 10's-12's, this book teaches long division, multiplying by 2-digit numbers, and checking in the four processes of computation. Reading problem skills include distance-rate-time, 2-step problems, using sketches, and identifying missing information.
Building with Diligence has 127 lessons divided into 11 chapters. The first two chapters deal with understanding sentence structures and types. Chapters 3-8 and Chapter 10 focus on seven parts of speech—nouns, verbs, pronouns, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions, and conjunctions. Chapter 9 teaches concepts about punctuation. Chapter 11 concludes the course with lessons on capitalization, the dictionary, synonyms, antonyms, and homonyms. Interspersed throughout the book are 33 composition lessons. Continual review is built into the lessons. This English course is designed for approximately 120 minutes of class time per week.
The penmanship course in Grade 4 is composed of one workbook with 36 lessons having tear-out pages, and a 91-page teacher's manual that shows a reduced pupil's page and gives detailed teaching instructions for each lesson.
The Grade 4 spelling workbook is composed of 34 weekly lessons including a review lesson every six weeks. Bound with a tough, soft cover, it can be used as a text or as a consumable workbook. It contains many well-illustrated pages.
Although Growing in Music assumes that the pupil can recognize characters such as notes, rests, and clef signatures, the six chapters cover the simplest elements of music and can be used for those who have had no previous instruction.
Such aspects as sound, tone properties, good singing habits, the various parts of the staff, the major diatonic scale, notes and rests, and rhythm are taught. There are questions at the end of each chapter for the student to answer.
Sight-reading exercises in the back ofthe book help the students to learn the scale and simple rhythm patterns. A sections of rounds and two-part songs is provided to help the students in harmonizing parts.
Every unit introduction in God's Inspiring World makes reference to the inspiring Book of Job. A number of places in the Bible account of Job's discussion with his friends, the subject of the natural world is mentioned. This discourse is followed by the climax of God Himself asking Job and his friends many questions about the world He created.
Clear instructions are given in Health for the Glory of God from Biblical guidelines for maintaining good health of body and mind for the glory of God. The pupil's book includes 13 lessons plus reviews.
Homelands Around the World gives Grade 4 pupils a glimpse of the world's geography, cultures, and wildlife from a Biblical perspective. It is both a storybook and a textbook. As a storybook, it portrays the lives of children in various lands and cultures. As a textbook, it explains some of the underlying reasons for differences in people's lives.
