The 132 lessons in this hardcover textbook explain and illustrate the new concepts with continuous drill and review practice provided. Lessons on oral and written composition are interspersed throughout the book with plenty of how-to-do-it examples given.
Class Practice is intended for oral practice in class. Some of it may be assigned as written work if class time does not allow for using it orally.
The written work is often divided into two parts. Written Exercises give practice on the present lesson. Review Exercises drill concepts taught previously.
Occasional Challenge Exercises provide optional work, which may be done for extra credit or assigned to able students.
The Chapter Reviews at the end of each chapter gives preparation for the chapter tests by reviewing the material studied in that chapter.
General teaching suggestions are included at the beginning of this hardcover manual. Copies of the pupil's pages are included in reduced size. The answers for the pupil's lessons are in shaded areas beside the exericises. Further teacher's helps are given on the shaded areas below the pupil's copies.
The Purpose is given for each lesson. A star indicates when a concept is introduced for the first time in the English series. Some lessons have an additional part titled Teacher, including further information for the teacher's awareness.
One goal of this series is to provide adequate review. Optional suggestions for repeated drill are given. Oral Review lists questions for review as well as preparation for the new lesson. A Written Quiz with Quiz Answers is sometimes included, which drills important concepts taught recently.
The Lesson Introduction suggests ways to introduce the lesson. The Lesson Outline lists specific points to be taught. Extra Practice lists the worksheet when one is prepared for that lesson.
At the end of the book, copies of the worksheets and tests have filled-in answers.
These 82 worksheets are additional practice. They may be used in workbook form or as tear-out sheets for remedial drill or extra practice. They may be copied as needed in teaching this English course. Worksheets are not provided for every lesson. They offer written exercises, but they do not include lesson explanations. They do not cover concepts that are not taught in the textbook.
This booklet includes 11 chapter tests and a final test on tear-out sheets.
